Iowa Central Marches on in Algona – By Anthony Vazquez

Iowa Central’s Marching band is joining the festivities and making an appearance at Algona Band Days. This year marks the 74th consecutive year of the annual event.

Algona Band Days were first held in the fall of 1948, one week prior to its Iowa High School Music Association State Marching Festival.

The event is a parade down State Street in Downtown Algona featuring floats and organizations from the community, but it mainly focuses on 15 to 20 bands, which are brought in from different places in Iowa. Iowa Central’s “Triton Marching Band” will be attending this year’s parade and will be  playing one of their football halftime show songs, “Butter” by South Korean K-pop group, “BTS.”

“I think it is such a great way for the community to come together to support students from all over the state and from other states.” Says AHS Band director Nick Libel.

*The Parade will begin at 1 PM on Saturday, October 1, 2022, on State Street*
